Apart Door Hinge, Tools You'll Need
Flat-head screwdriver or Phillips-head (match screw type)
Hammer
Nail punch or thick nail
Wood blocks or door jack
Pliers (for stubborn pins/screws)
WD-40 (if hinges are rusted)
Step-by-Step Removal
1. Secure the Door
Place wood blocks under the bottom edge of the door.
Never skip this! A falling door can cause injury or damage.
2. Remove the Hinge Pin
Locate the pin: Vertical metal cylinder connecting hinge leaves.
Spray WD-40 on pin base if rusted (wait 5–10 mins).
Position punch/nail: Place tip under the pin head.
Hammer upward: Strike sharply until pin slides out.
Stuck pin? Tap hinge sideways with hammer while slowly opening/closing the door.
3. Separate Door from Frame
Lift door vertically once pins are removed.
Tilt top toward you to clear hinge plates.
Set door aside on padded surface.
4. Remove Hinge Plates
Unscrew door-side plates:
Remove screws attaching hinges to door edge.
Unscrew frame-side plates:
Remove screws fixing hinges to door frame.
Stubborn screws?
Press screwdriver hard into slots to avoid stripping.
Use pliers to grip screw heads if stripped.
